There is Power in Listening.

May the words I hear, always outweigh the words I’ve spoken.

I tweeted this phrase a few weeks ago and the more I repeat it, the more I discover it’s versatility.

Not only should we be more attentive to listening to the world around us, but also understanding that there is power is listening. An old proverb states, “The beginning of wisdom starts when you realize you don’t know anything.” This idea encourages us to listen to those who have much to offer us because in listening, we learn.

I know that for me, being slow to speak and eager to listen allows me to build new perspectives. Maybe that is how it’s supposed to be…because after all, we have one mouth and two ears for a reason.
